The driving inspiration for this piece comes from the pervasive tension and listlessness in the air as we are caught in the tides of uncertainty. From uncertainty springs the need for order - stalwart action. Direction. Consolidation of purpose before the hand uplifts, the fist extends, the people strike. ... and long was the discontent is inspired in part by the striking revolutionary imagry of movements past and the current wave of reactionary populism in the United States circa 2024 against fascism and its regimes. The effect is to be militaristic, purpousful, but altogether working toward a glorious future, a common goal. The piece is very utilitarian in that respect and not much for frills and flourishes.
